Hennepin County government affects everyone, every day in areas that include transportation, public safety, libraries, housing, public health and human services delivery. As the largest economic engine in the state, Hennepin County shares a role in guiding competitiveness and growth in the region through public investments that aide commerce, education, and help provide for the future. I believe I’ve provided responsible leadership for the First District during some pretty challenging times in our economy, and am eager to continue delivering results.

I am announcing my intent to seek reelection as your County Commissioner in 2016.It is an honor to serve the residents of Brooklyn Park, Brooklyn Center, Crystal, New Hope, Robbinsdale, and Osseo, and I hope to continue to do so. Among the work we’ve accomplished together:
-The Blue Line Extension (Bottineau LRT) is now a real project and will bring incredibly transformative investment in the northwestern suburbs. Our cities have been working hard to generate development ideas around the stations and I want to ensure those ideas come to fruition.
-Hennepin’s Youth Sports Grants will continue to expand out of school opportunities for kids in every city. Investment of another $2.2M in youth sports activities and playgrounds will occur in 2016.
-The Brooklyn Park library will open in May! This modern, STEM and technology focused facility will be a destination library, almost three times the size of the outdated library on Zane Avenue.
-Improving safety on Highway 252 is a new and important priority. Hennepin County has assumed the lead in coordinating with Brooklyn Park and Brooklyn Center to redesign Highway 252. Eliminating dangerous intersections and reducing delay are our goals.
-Reforming our child protection system has begun. There have been way too many tragedies. We can and will do better.
Hennepin County is often a quiet layer of government, but the work we do affects lives every day. I am eager to continue working on behalf of the people of District One and look forward to discussing your priorities with you over the coming months.
